Artist Statement

I’ve always wanted to paint everything in the sheer luck of my existence, the short time I get to spend here, conscious, on earth. I paint what I know about being alive, what it means for me to be a human thus far, my understanding of self, being a girl, a woman, things that happened, things that haven’t… what it means or doesn’t to me all. So I composed a series of oil paintings of just that: everything. And if I had more time I would have painted everything else.

I studied theories of consciousness to understand the “self” and embodiment, consciousness intertwined with mind and body, which is prevalent in much of my imagery. I put my faith in chance, letting my mind run free: with no time limits, or number of pieces, no “finished” paintings. To let my subconscious equally be a part of my paintings, to discover what my mind might not allow me to know, that maybe my body only remembers.

In the everythingness of them, my paintings are searching for something, I’m not sure what, or if they will ever find it.
